During the altar servers monthly meeting held on 1st November 2012, the altar servers coordinators felicitated the altar servers who had served as often as they could for the month of October 2012. Each of these altar-servers had made a genuine effort to serve as many masses as they could of their own initiative and desire. Each Altar server was presented a certificate of appreciation along with a token gift. The names of the top ten altar servers are given above along with the number of masses they have served in brackets.

New altar servers training

Training for new altar servers was held on 12th Nov 2012 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Main church. Nine children attended the training session and were inducted in the sodality. The children were explained all aspects of the altar serving starting from the dressing up, standing in procession, genuflecting, to other finer details and timings of their actions on the altar.

The minimum requirement for the altar servers in our parish is to have received Holy Communion and should be a member of the catechism class. Attendance at the sodality monthly meeting is compulsory. The maximum age to serve the sodality is 14 years. An altar server must serve a total of 8 masses per month at least.

Altar servers training for High mass

High masses (Christmas or parish feast masses) involve certain extra duties for altar servers like incensing of altar, holding of Bishop's miter or crosier (pastoral staff). To train our altar servers for such events a training was held on 20th Nov 2012 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Main church. The parish had 11 altar servers who were present for this training.

Altar-serving runs in the family

On December 1, 2012 as announced earlier, during the monthly meeting, the pictures of the altar-server siblings were taken. We had 15 sets of sibling altar servers and their names are given below:

It was Fr. Peter's idea of clicking altar server sibling pictures and placing them on the church website. He thought it would capture the fact that when a child joins the altar server ministry, it actually involves the whole family and in time it becomes a family tradition. The younger sibling or siblings are inspired seeing the older brother or sister at the altar, and they soon aspire to be one themselves. The parents are pleased that their children want to serve Jesus, so close to the altar, and make all the necessary sacrifices and adjustments to their own schedules to support and encourage their children.

We are proud of our altar servers and we thank all parents for their support.

During the altar servers monthly meeting held on 3rd November 2012, Fr. Peter P.M. OFM Cap felicitated the altar servers who had served as often as they could for the period of June to September 2012. Each of these altar-servers had made a genuine effort to serve as many masses as they could of their own initiative and desire. Each Altar server was presented a certificate of appreciation along with a token gift. The names of the top ten altar servers are given above along with the number of masses they have served in brackets.

Some of the altar servers who regularly serve for the morning 5:30 am mass are Xavier, Vinaya, Jerome, Aroma Baby, Ankit Marcel & Annet Maria.

Those altar servers who also make the special effort to attend the First Friday Adoration and the Mass at 3:00 pm after having attended Catechism in the morning, were applauded. Their names were Neha Alves, Aldrin Corderio & Ruby Corderio.

Altar-servers are encouraged to serve the 6:00 am morning Mass and the 3:00 pm mass on Fridays, if and when possible.

New altar servers training

Training for new altar servers will be held on 12th Nov 2012 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Main church. All new altar servers and others servers who would like to brush up on altar serving are requested to be present for this training.

Altar servers training for High mass

High masses (Christmas or parish feast masses) involve certain extra duties for altar servers like incensing of altar, holding of Bishop's miter or crosier (pastoral staff). To train our altar servers for such events a training will be held on 20th Nov 2012 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Main church. All interested altar servers who are 11 years and above are requested to be present for this training.

Altar servers sibling photographs

A photograph of altar server siblings, brothers serving, sisters serving or brother and sister serving, will be taken at the next altar server meeting of 1st December 2012 at 5:00 PM in the Alverna chapel. To make it easier for the parents it has been scheduled just half an hour before the monthly meeting. Siblings are requested to come in altar server vestments.

Altar servers vestments

We appreciate the parents for taking the initiative to enroll your child to the altar servers sodality and continuous support that you extend to your children which will be remembered and rewarded forever.

Further to our earlier circular on the missing altar-server vestments it has been noted that the altar-servers are increasingly finding it difficult to get vestments corresponding to their sizes. It has been noticed that there are times when altar-servers cannot serve because they cannot find vestments of their size for a particular mass.

It is therefore in the best interest of the child that it has been decided that parents buy their own vestments for their children. We therefore request parents to please contact/visit Designer Tailors on 44325478/55890361 (close to Sanaa) and arrange for your child's measurements to be taken.

A complete personal set of made-to-order vestments will be available for QR 130. It is advisable and desirable to have the vestments ready in time for Christmas.
